1. Apologies
Mr R James and Mr M Bennett.
2. To consider whether to have the names of the fallen or a poem on the Village Memorial
The Chairman reported on his meeting with Mr Dickinson, Chairman of the local branch of the British Legion and Mr Dickinson was invited to address the meeting at 7.46pm. Miss Westgarth reported that the Artist had not as yet begun to incorporate the names into the design and was happy for a piece of poetry to be included if so wished. The Artist also knew of a local poet who would be please to assist.
On a proposition by Ms Wakelin, seconded by Mrs Morison it was agreed that the names are not included on the Memorial but that it becomes a village memorial with suitably reflective words which would embrace the philosophy that it was in remembrance of all Comberton residents who had given service to the village both in war and peace. The motion was carried with 10 votes in favour and one vote against. Mr Watts asked that his vote against the motion be formally recorded.
It was further agreed that the artist should ask the poet to write some suitable words for consideration by both the British Legion and the Parish Council and consult with the village at the already arranged consultation sessions.
There was no further business and the meeting closed at 7.52pm.
